What Will Sessions Look Like?
Why Virtual Therapy, Rather Than Face to Face Therapy?
Research has found Virtual CBT Therapy to be equally as effective as Face To Face CBT Therapy.
In fact, recent research has even found Virtual CBT Therapy to be more effective, than Face To Face CBT therapy, in some cases.
Virtual Therapy also has the added benefits of:
enabling you to have your therapy sessions in the comfort of your own home.
no travel costs.
no travel time.
more flexibility to fit your sessions around other commitments in your life, e.g. possibly not needing to find childcare.
May be more convenient.
May be easier to access, if you have a disability or mobility difficulty.
Easy access to CBT therapy, regardless of your geographical location.
Assessment Session
You will first have a virtual CBT assessment session (over Microsoft Teams), to assess whether CBT will be the most appropriate form of therapy for you, or not. If CBT is deemed, to not be the most suitable form of therapy for your needs at this time, then you will not be charged for the session and will be directed to services that might better be able to support your mental health needs. At the end of the assessment, you will receive a diagnosis of what mental health problem your symptoms indicate you to have. We will then discuss your treatment plan. It is important that you are in a private space for your assessment session, to ensure you can speak freely and disclose all the relevant information that will help me to ensure you get the right diagnosis and treatment plan.
Therapy Sessions
Your therapy sessions will be 1 hour long, virtual sessions (over Microsoft Teams) and will take place on a weekly basis. They will involve working through a specialist set of steps, scientifically proven to treat the mental health disorder that you are experiencing.
Typically, CBT courses last around 12-14 sessions. Some people may need more than 12-14 sessions, but this will be gauged based on your clinical needs. It is important that you are in a private space for your therapy session, to ensure you can speak freely and disclose all relevant information that will help me to fully understand your mental health problem and how to help you with it.
Sessions include:
An agenda being set at the beginning of each session, where we can both decide what will be most helpful next steps for that session, that will continue to improve your mental health disorder and build on progress already made.
use of diagrams and charts to illustrate things such as: information about your mental health, the vicious cycle it has you in, different ways of looking at things and what can change/improve if you work on your mental health problem. All materials created and used will be sent to you.
A goal will always be set to achieve between sessions. This goal will be a CBT technique to practice, which is designed and scientifically proven to improve certain symptoms within your mental health disorder, if utilised.
A tailored-to you Relapse Prevention Plan at the end of therapy
